Anup Sastry Joins The Meinl Cymbal Family

Meinl Cymbals is pleased to welcome Anup Sastry to its family of cymbal artists.

A native of Maryland, Anup began his career by tirelessly and  professionally promoting his drumming on His goal was to promote his own original material and to also gain the notice of a touring band that needed a drummer. He succeeded in his goal, as he has been working with guitar wiz Jeff Loomis and Indian prog masters Skyharbor just to name a couple.

Obviously the hard work has paid off. But rather than hear out version of it, check out what Anup himself had to say about his current activities:

"I have been touring with Jeff Loomis for a few months now. My first tour drumming for Jeff was back in March/April of this year. It was with Protest The Hero and Periphery. I recently came home from a second tour with Jeff. This was with a band called The Contortionists. I played drums for Jeff on this tour, but I also filled in for another band from the UK called Chimp Spanner. I pulled double duty on this tour. Both of these tours (Protest and Contortionists) were U.S. tours. I will be doing a headlining tour with Jeff Loomis in Europe starting mid October into mid/end of November.

Skyharbor is a band based out of India. I went to India to perform at the NH7 Bacardi Weekender Festival with Skyharbor back in November of 2011. That was our first show. Since then, I have played with Skyharbor one other time in May earlier this year. We were direct support for Lamb of God in Bangalore. I plan on going back out to India in early December to play a short spring of shows.

I am about to leave for Canada tomorrow to tour with Intervals. Intervals is a band based out of Toronto, Ontario."

Welcome Anup!
