Cymbalissimo is the name of an event which was held at the Conservatory in Vienna, Austria two days ago on May 06. Symphonic cymbals and their sounds, playing techniques, and fields of applications were the center of attention. High-profile lecturers from some of the world's best orchestras hosted symphonic cymbal workshops followed by percussion students.
Faculty members included Joerg Hannabach (Munich Philharmonic Orchstra), Benjamin Schmidinger (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), Johann Krasser (Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra), Florian Alexandru-Zorn (Educator, Author), and many more.
I attended Cymbalissimo and looked after our symphonic cymbal exhibition, took part in the various discussions which were going on there among the students and lecturers, and took the chance to learn so much about this field of cymbal sounds and playing. I want to thank everyone who showed interest in our symphonic cymbals. A special thanks goes out to Prof. Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic who put the whole event together. Cymbalissimo has been an outstanding event which to my knowledge does not exist anywhere else in the world so far.
From what I understand, there will be another similar event next year covering other areas of classical and symphonic percussion. Stay tuned for that.
