In Retrospect - The First Meinl Cymbal Live Stream

Almost two months ago we’ve done our first ever internet live stream. Chris Coleman and I played, talked, and explained a lot of our cymbals. Drummers from all over world asked questions which Chris or I answered on the spot. A total of four hours of live stream was held (split into 2 x two hour sessions to cover as many time zones as possible). Yes, I was a bit nervous the days before and also a bit tired after the sessions were over J Bottom line, it was a great experience, lots of fun, and I loved doing it.

What amazed me the most were the kind of questions you guys asked. We often ask ourselves if we are missing the mark with what we come out. Therefore that kind of feedback we get from you during an event like that puts us back on track. It’s essential for us. Thank you all for your active participation during the live stream.

I got a copy of the livechat of both streams. I know some questions remained unanswered because of lack of time. As promised, I will answer all of them here one by one, one question at a time. So here we go with the first one:

“Will there be a lighter 13” Dark Hat being made in the near future?”

Right now we have no plans to make a lighter version. Especially with the Dark Series it is pretty tricky to make different weights as those are unlathed cymbals. Lathing enables us to exactly determine the weight of every cymbal, and with unlathed cymbals, this is very difficult. That is also the reason why in the Dark Series there are no weight classifications like thin, or medium, or heavy.

Interesting fact: We found out that this particular model, the Byzance 13” Dark Hat has maybe become our most popular hihat of all. It’s the perfect all-around pair and works in almost every situation. Many of endorsers use it in their set up.

Talking about the live stream again: A big thank you goes to Florian Alexandru-Zorn for letting us use his portal onlinelessons.tv. And last but not least I wanted to ask you if you were into the idea of us hosting more Meinl Live Stream sessions in the future? I would have tons of material from our little Meinl world to share with you? What do you think?
