MEINL Presents: The Funkmasters Interview

John ‘Jabo’ Starks and Clyde Stubblefield – Funkmasters and original James Brown drummers

Known from the ground-breaking beats and grooves that they created during their time with the god-father of soul James Brown, these two living legends have had an enormous influence on the development of modern music.

To recognize their life’s work, we brought Jabo and Clyde to Nashville, TN where we filmed a two hour interview conducted by Robert ‘Sput’ Searight, drummer for Snarky Puppy.

We are extremely proud to present this interview, which will be released in six individual episodes over the next couple of months through Meinl’s social media outlets. Please join us in celebrating their tremendous cultural contributions.

Give the drummers some!

Thanks, Chuck

Kudos for getting this interview with the two forefathers together. In future installments, I hope you use more time actually on Clyde and Jabo. The constant cut-aways to people who are not Clyde & Jabo were maddening. We all know how influential they were/are, please just let them do the talking. Many thanks, - Rob Robinson

@Chuck - you will know when future installments are available because we will promote the heck out of them! :-) The news will be all over our social media outlets.
@Rob - regarding the cutaways: this was just an introductory video about the project that you will see broken down into multiple webisodes. The reason for the speaking was because we were introducing the series. It was nothing more than an introduction and a trailer of sorts. We're glad you are so eager to see more. Thanks for watching!
