Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Anthony Martone

Meinl Cymbals welcomes Anthony Martone of Versa Emerge to its family of cymbal artists. Anthony and Versa Emerge have released their self-titled EP on the ever-popular Fueled By Ramen record label, home to chart-topping artists such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Panic At The Disco. So needless to say, high hopes are pinned on this band from Florida.

Currently on the road and gathering steam, Anthony and Versa Emerge are heading into the summer with a stint on the entire VANS Warped Tour. Keep your eyes peeled for these guys.

Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Brett Powell

Meinl Cymbals welcomes Brett Powell to its family of cymbal artists. Brett slays the skins for the new wave of prog-rock masters, The Human Abstract. With a style that recalls the adventurous freneticism of early King Crimson combined with a modern hipness that places them neck and neck with any band on the Mayhem Festival or the Vans Warped Tour, Brett and The Human Abstract are a musical whirling dervish that still gets to the heart of a song.

Currently Brett and the band are on tour in support of The Human Abstract's second full length album, Midheaven.

Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Mike Smith

Meinl Cymbals is pleased to welcome Mike Smith to its family of cymbal artists. Mike is the drummer for extreme metal pioneers Suffocation. Having begun his career with the band in 1989, Mike and Suffocation helped give rise to the modern day existence of extreme metal through their fusion of death metal, grindcore, and technically challenging musical passages. Mike himself is known for creating what is referred to today as the "Smith Blast," or "Suffo Blast," a version of a blast beat where the snare, cymbals, and bass drum are played together in synchronization. Over the last twenty years, Mike and Suffocation have always remained innovators within the metal community and have garnered international acclaim because of this.

Currently, Mike and the band are set to co-headline the increasingly popular US leg of the Summer Slaughter Tour, alongside fellow technical extreme metal legends Necrophagist.

Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Sam Smith

Meinl Cymbals welcomes Sam Smith to its family of cymbal artists. Straight out of Nashville, TN, Sam is the drummer for the widely acclaimed singer, song-writer, pianist, Ben Folds. With an uncanny nack for crafting the most complimentary of rhythmic foundations, Sam is the perfect drumming foil for Ben's syncopated piano runs. His pop sensibilities bring to mind Ringo, Hal Blaine, and the great Motown drummers, all in one. Welcome Sam!

Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Jeral 'Scooter' Gray

Meinl Cymbals welcomes Jeral 'Scooter' Gray to its family of cymbal artists. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Scooter currently holds down the drum chair for the chart-topping R&B artist Keyshia Cole.

Something must be in the water in Chicago, because the town is known for producing some top notch deep pocket drummers. Scooter is no exception to the rule. Check out his most recent television performance with Keyshia Cole on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Click here.

Studio Update from Matt Clark

Meinl Cymbal artist Matt Clark and his band Maylene and the Sons of Disaster have been hard at work in the studio, putting the finishing touches on their next album.

Here's the skinny from Matt himself -

"Yeah, the record really turned out great. Of course, with the addition of some new members early last year, we expected the record to be different than the other two. I think the over all record has a real good groove to it. Some parts are more southern and twangy than on past records, and heavy parts are in some cases heavier, with a great deal of big choruses. I guess the record has a rock feel over all, which is what we were kinda going for and would like to continue to develop in future recordings. The band's story picks up with Dallas and Roman making their way through the attempted killing of the gang on the last record and forming with a new gang, representing the new guys in the band, and now preparing to unleash a whole new level of terror under Maylene and her new sons of disaster. I guess as for me, I've tried to learn as much as I can about drums and the art to it. My biggest approach to things now is Less is More. Making sure that the groove is in place, the tempo is kept, and all the other stuff being just an extra. I'm tired of trying to "Make My Mark," and am more focused on trying to be one piece of a six piece puzzle that is our band. We're all very excited about the record and can't wait to share it with everyone."
