British Drumming Clinician And Educator Martin Ranscombe Signs To Meinl Cymbals

Martin Ranscombe ('The Drum Guru') has signed an endorsement deal with Meinl Cymbals this months. "I have been looking at Meinl cymbals for some time now and realised that all the sounds that 'rattle around my head' can only be accommodated by the Meinl ranges," said Martin. "On top of that, Meinl are always innovative and have a wonderfully progressive approach to cymbal manufacturing and product development - something that is very attractive, particularly to anyone with a creative and perhaps, more unorthodox view of the music world!"

Martin is highly regarded among drummers of all levels for his innovative approach to playing education and drum tuning. His novel approach to tackling drummers' everyday problems and providing attainable answers in a highly entertaining way, has seen him deliver many clinics and workshops throughout the UK and Northern Europe over the last 10 years. Martin has also written several articles over the years and made various educational videos, including most recently, a series for the UK's drumming publication - RHYTHM.

Martin is using Meinl's Generation X, Byzance Traditional, Byzance Brilliant, Byzance Dark Series, and Byzance Vintage Series Cymbals exclusively.

Check out Martin's artist profile for more information.

Meinl Cymbals Welcomes Damion Reid

Meinl Cymbals is pleased to welcome Damion Reid to its family of cymbal artists.

Damion currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and is immersed in the multi-cultural jazz/world/fusion scenes where he is able to morph from one playing situation to the next.

Damion comes from a musical family and began playing as soon as he was able to hold sticks in his hands. Around the age of twelve, Damion began being mentored by the world-renowned drummer Billy Higgins.  During these formative years Billy's spirit for life and music was deeply seeded in Damion's mind. Seeing Damion's ability to grasp the music both, analytically and conceptually it wasn't long before Billy invited him to be apart of his drum collective. As he began to mature musically he found himself frequenting Billy's club “The World Stage,” learning and playing with the likes of Billy Childs, George Bohanon and Oscar Brashear.

As Damion continued to cultivate his love for music through his high school years, he managed school life with professional obligations.  Damion graduated High School and made the move to Boston, Massachusetts' New England Conservatory of Music where he spent time with with Cecil McBee, Danilo Perez, Fred Buda, and George Russell as well as his musical peers. It was while in Boston between the years of 1998 and 1999 that he received the prestigious Alan Dawson scholarship. He then was accepted into the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of Southern California. He then found himself trekking to New York City to attend The New School.  He then began performing and touring alongside Greg Osby, Terence Blanchard, Robert Glasper, Cassandra Wilson, Bruce Hornsby, Jacky Terrasson, Ravi Coltrane, Reggie Workman, Marcus Belgrave, Angie Stone, Robert Hurst, Angelique Kidjo, Meshell Ndegeocello, Jason Moran, Mark Shim, Dianne Reeves, Mark Turner, Lauryn Hill and many others.

Damion Reid is currently playing with Apex (Bunky Green, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Jason Moran and Francois Moutin) and Samdhi (Rudresh Mahanthappa, David Gilmore, Rich Brown and Anantha Krishnan.)  Damion is also playing in various projects led by guitarist Miles Okazaki and a Steve Lehman, Rudresh Mahanthappa co-led project entitled Dual Identity.
