Great video, watched the whole thing.

I saw some great new ideas in his playing, Its cool to see he still manages to evolve as a drummer even as busy as he is!

Shame about his left kick mic, the sound really didn't do his footwork justice, but what can ya do?

Thanks for the upload and great job Thomas!

He's really an inspiration.

i really like his new set-up, sounds much better without the roland triggers on em' like when i saw him at the modern drummer fest in 06'. One of the best drummers/musicians around today.

Whren it comes to technique, Thomas is the best ... no doubt

Is that a Sonor S-Classix`? =)

bob replied on June 28, 2008 - 05:47

yes he use sonor SQ2 and s-classix and the set pedal is not the same(no snare on s-classix but 2 meinl timbales on pedal)

Well, he can do a few tricks with the hands but overall I am not that impressed. I can tell you that rudiments are interesting but they get boring after awhile and this video is just full of one after another. I felt like I a was almost listening to a drum line workout. Yeah, I know I am being a little negative, but do yourself a favor and youtube a few Neil Pert vidoes ...... now, there is a drummer!

Mr. Meoff replied on May 21, 2008 - 01:53

Would be a little more respectful if you could spell your hero's name correctly,....Neil Peart!!

Master Thomas Lang, is the beeeeest drummer I have ever seen. I used to think Bill Bruford and Neil Peart were two of the greatest drummers in the whole world, but then I heard thomas. He is truly unbelievable. He must not have had a life outside of playing drums when he was growing up. He lived at the drum set! Awesome!!!!!!!

First of all, let me start off by saying how balanced he plays. Every stroke is precise and controlled. Dynamics are impeccable. Speed and balance between hand and feet are awesome.
I met him on a plane to St. Kitts in 2001, sitting right next to him and didn't even know who he was. After hearing him play, I knew then that he was a master at the kit.
As soon as I got home, I went on line and ordered his DVD to get in depth of more of his approach. He has truly inspired my playing quite a bit.
Thomas keep on making an impact to the music industry and all drummers who hear you.

Quite amazing technician. WOW. Some of my faves have chops like this kat. His coordination is unbelievable. very difficult to listen to him for this long for me, as there is no SILENCE ! No space in his drumming in this vid. I do know he is certainly more than able, this one just wore me out. though. nice job T. You freak me out with your left right brain abilities!!!!!!!!

to Troy:

Everything we do on the drumset is based more or less on rudiments (referral to Virgil Donati http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-2Ut3heVKU on 0:10 - 0:17). Single stroke roll is a rudiment as well in case you didn't know.

Thomas Lang is NOT all about stick twirling but people just can't see beyond that. No-one really seems to be able to see beyond the stick twirling and all the other tricks and really listen and think what this guy is doing. This is a guy who can't be judged over a one drum solo and even if he could, only a few people can do that cause all the others can't tell the difference between what Lang is doing and what Lars Ulrich is doing if they don't understand his way of playing.

I have his newest DVD Creative Coordination and Advanced Footwork and after having watched the whole thing, I now think I understand much better (but still not fully) what he is doing when he plays and what he does he have to do when wanting to express a certain idea as drumpattern. After I understood all those things and listened to Lang explaining some his thoughts on playing drums, I'm convinced that this guy by far one the world's best drummers if not the best. His technical ability is beyond anyone else and he's creative and musical as well - and he grooves.

I encourage people to buy one (or both of them) of his dvd's and really look into the basic ideas behind his playing and listen the interview parts with THOUGHT. Then you just might be a little more impressed when you know what he's playing... And after that some people might even commit suicide cause they used to think that some things were impossible to play but Lang plays those as well. :)

"Technique has nothing to do with music. It's a tool, like a hammer: You can build a shed or you can build the Sistine Chapel."

Dear Friends:
I have been trying to watch these video's below. And it stops and starts quite frequently. Making it difficult to watch and enjoy. I have not attempted to any others from other percussionist, but I presume it would be the same.
I'm running Windows XP and I can use either Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla firefox 3.5.6. With a broadband connection so Ihave NO IDEA what the problems might be. I have never run into this problem anywhere near to this extent before.
Can you help??? I live in the USA and a state called Vermont.
Hope to hear from you soon...
Sincerely your's Ralph Falzarano
