omg! you are my favorite drummer for lif. and i think i love .

Adam replied on May 24, 2008 - 09:25

i love underoath but i would like to see what aaron
can do in other genres. to me it seams like he has a
jazz influence with how he divides the beats up and when he throws in accents. u know what i mean
by the way music is nothing with out feeling and and i
can feel the passion for his love of music and religion
hitting me in the nose!!!!!

Viktor wrote on January 07, 2008 - 23:47

He is untalented and a buffoon.I take better s**t in morning!Oh my god!!I think he (she?) buy a new one cymball every week because he break of these one...and the musik is also crap!

nashville replied on January 08, 2008 - 01:32

dude, you can disagree with us in saying that he's a good drummer, but at least do it in a respectful way, anyway, i don't see thousands of kids going to see your shows... He's a great drummer, but he's under-credited.

horst the horse replied on January 08, 2008 - 21:58

@viktor:

I don´t think, that he has to buy new cymbals every weak, becouse there are no crashes in his setup....he is crashing only ride cymbals

Lewis replied on February 23, 2008 - 17:27

His meinl profile shows a 21" and a 22" byzance crash, and a 24" Trad Med ride.

zack n replied on April 22, 2008 - 04:54

I don't trust what you say cause you cant even spell correctly.

danny replied on May 13, 2008 - 09:12

the sizes and types of cymbals he uses are listed in his artist profile on this website.

Brad replied on February 07, 2010 - 18:52

I'd like to see viktor play drums like that not to mention sing at the same time! I think aaron's a pretty talented guy!

tj replied on February 12, 2010 - 07:13

talked to him when he came to miami florida. he uses a mix of crashes AND rides!! he had a 21" crash a 22" RIDE and he's 24" ride!!

Aaron is one of the most energentic drummers i have seen and lets face it people he sings while he drums that in itself is amazing i wish he could teach me how haha and he brings the message he doesn't hide JESUS

Viktor wrote on January 09, 2008 - 01:36

OK!Im saying it respectful.I think he is not a great drummer as i see in that video.Everyone can hit the cymballs like this, like a mad pearson.Thats my opinion.

dylan replied on January 10, 2008 - 19:24

then post a video of yourself doing it.

just like him.

i mean, if anyone can do it, right?

shnargledorf replied on January 20, 2008 - 05:21

i personally think that chris adler is a little overrated, but thats just the way i see it

Josh replied on June 14, 2008 - 02:25

I totally agree with dylan, i would like to see a video of you playing like gillespie... since you think so high of yourself

Viktor wrote on January 09, 2008 - 01:46

Cesar i know im better in druming than Aaron!
I dont hate him.Im just say in this video he is not intreduce himself as a very talented drummer.
(like in the other videos..)

For examle see Chris Adler videos. He is talented.Aaron Gillespie is not.
Thats all.(folks)

craig replied on April 02, 2008 - 19:32

Superman wrote on January 09, 2008 - 01:49

To this Viktor kid. If you could only be half the drummer/song writter he is. He sends the greatest message thorugh his music. Even if its not rap/pop or such genres of music. Hes an amazing man. He has a place and he knows where hes going. There is nothing better then going to and underoath/the almost show. Amazing man. Truly amazing

alexia wrote on January 09, 2008 - 03:21

if you guys want a womens opinion, im a drummer and i scream and kill my symbols its the hardest thing to do. to viktor its your opinion but you dont have to be so rude about it. how many people are watching your videos right now because i know i'm not! frikin self rightous prick. for example: i think meg white has no talent what so ever. BUT that may be becuase the sound of white stripes is perfect and they dont need any more sound. i dont sit here bashing her! you went on and on about how you think he's not a good drummer. thes not cool man. anyway....! jesus rocks!
Peace and Love to EVERYONE!
Alexia

Ryan wrote on January 09, 2008 - 08:39

Well, I think that the argument over his talent is pretty much a moot point.

While his performance on Define the Great Line was more interesting than on They're Only Chasing Saftey, neither are his best. I think the Changing of Times is where you should go if you want to make or break your opinion of him.

Secondly, Chris Adler and Aaron Gillespie play totally differently. Any interview with Adler will reveal that he relishes 100% faith to the albums in his live performances whereas Gillespie is much more partial to improv fills throughout. (although admittedly , he uses improv less now than in Underoath's early career)

Sure, your entitled to your opinion, but I think that comparing Adler to Gillespie is like comparing Tito Puentes to Buddy Rich...pointless.

Peter wrote on January 09, 2008 - 10:25

Yeah he's energetic and it suits the music well. Not the most technical guy around and definitely not the best drummer on the planet. But he's good at what he does and he looks good behind the drums. So a very successful drummer. That's all that can be said.

Viktor wrote on January 09, 2008 - 15:05

OK.I dont care what you say.Seriously.I said what i,m thinking.

eiurhhrftilausbfgaiursgfh wrote on January 09, 2008 - 23:54

dude this is like stuff that he can do in his sleep. u obviously havnt seen him when he going all out

tom wrote on January 10, 2008 - 00:33

come on, this is not jazz - he's a metal drummer and i think a really good one.

@eiurhhrftilausbfgaiursgfh
get a real name :-)

@eiurhhrftilausbfgaiursgfh replied on January 12, 2008 - 05:25

okay :)

dylan wrote on January 10, 2008 - 19:27

there's obviously a huge difference between him and chris adler, just because you like one more than the other doesn't mean that one is credible and the other is crap. it just means YOU don't like them.

it takes a lot to be able to play with technical wizardry, yeah. but it also takes a lot to put on such a physical performance. a drummers job is to support the BAND'S music perfectly, not fit your personal tastes. and aaron gillespie does just that.

josef wrote on January 11, 2008 - 00:59

Don't compare Drummers! The question is if the drumming suits the music and if it contains technique and power (in metal music)! In my opinion he really has got power, but there are many more drummers with better Technique. I'm not impressed very much by this video! He's not a bad drummer, but the best drummer?? Never ...

Sorry if my english is bad ...

dbsnow wrote on January 13, 2008 - 05:30

OK victor you cant compare chris adler to aaron gillespie...Thats 2 different genres, and 2 different sets.Sure chris adler is a good drummer but so is aaron gillespie...give aaron chris' set and he could do all the same things chris does.Plus aaron doesnt just bang cymbals it has rythm to it...I bet a 4 year old has more rythm than you victor!

dylan wrote on January 13, 2008 - 21:06

yeah, comparing is dumb. but people on the internet will never stop doing it.

i don't think aaron gillespie is the best drummer ever. he's just MY favorite.

dbsnow wrote on January 14, 2008 - 00:20

Aaron is my favorite drummer also haha.

maybe one of the best \
so shut up and lets see you drum as good as him

nashville wrote on January 19, 2008 - 08:52

his drumming on 'define the great line' is probably his best so far, way better than the changing of times, because that was too metal for me, but thats just a personal opinion...

NiCK wrote on January 21, 2008 - 22:56

i think this victor guy should watch the live show on the 777 dvd and listen to not only his talent on define the great line especially moving for the sake of motion, but every other cd he has recorded on. where are your sponsors at victor?i dont see your shows selling out every night!

John wrote on January 22, 2008 - 21:16

The biggest thing that amazes me about him is the fact that he does a lot of the singing.

hey victor you are a bi*ch. thats it

Atticus Graves wrote on January 27, 2008 - 19:42

victor -

who are you to say he isnt talented? and if you hate him so much why are you watching his videos? oh, and just because he is a confident player doesnt mean he thinks so highly of himself as you seem to think about him. and what exactly are you comparing his talent or no talent to? and im pretty Mr. Aaron Gillespie can care less about what you think, especially since you don't give any good reason as to why you think he's so incredibly untalented. everyone knows he's not the best drummer in the world and he doesnt even think that himself, he is just favorited by people that like his style and all that.

matt wrote on January 28, 2008 - 18:16

to everyone bashing or defending drummers. why dont you post your own videos and also hes gettig paid more so it doesnt matter. a last note to victor just because he doesnt do anything really complicated doesnt mean he isnt talented it means he has discipline which you have shown that you dont.

Nicolette wrote on January 28, 2008 - 18:42

WOO cha man saw him at warped tour last year, and I must say in my own opinion they are AWSOME live! God i will be so damn disappointed if their not going again this year!!

Aaron owns end of story! <3

Tyler wrote on January 29, 2008 - 22:55

Aaron is SOOO rad!
I've been playing drums for a few years now, and I find my style to be alot like his.
And it's not just because he's my favorite drummer because I played drums before I even knew about UnderØATH.
But ever since I've known about them, they've been my favorite band!
I love Aaron, and what he does and that goes for the rest of the band too!
I CANT WAIT FOR THEIR NEW ALBUM!

Mike wrote on January 30, 2008 - 22:05

Viktor, I like Aaron Gillespie, but I like Chris Adler just as much, but that gives you no reason to go on one of Aarons videos and pretty much throw his talents down the drain, who cares, he hits the cymbals hard? He is awesome, and if you dont like it, dont comment and piss people off.

Graeme wrote on February 05, 2008 - 16:22

Hey Viktor

Just to let you know Aaron's first CD came out when he was 14 lets see you do somthing that amazing.

Carson wrote on February 05, 2008 - 22:50

Aaron is a great drummer and has fun with it. I think he is a great person because he loves Christ.

chai wrote on February 13, 2008 - 12:19

in all the years that this scremo sub catagory has existed (which is possibly an even gayer form of emo) i think this gay guy takes the biggest slice of the `cake` as it were
sure druming aint all bout speed or technique but it is all about choosing the most intresting and best fitting beats that you can think of.
Considering thats the best he could come up with
he really aint that good

Chris Madge wrote on February 15, 2008 - 04:03

If you dont respect aaron gillepsie then your not worth respecting

alex wrote on February 18, 2008 - 05:13

Aaron is awesome to Viktor shut the hell up,Aaron's AWESOME!!!!!,and just because he has a good time like real drummers should, dosen't mean he's a bufoon,so lets see you drum.

Tyler wrote on February 19, 2008 - 22:17

I can't believe that people come on here disrespecting him.
He's a really great drummer.
I commented once before, and now I go back and look at these comments and I wonder, "Why watch him if you don't like him?"
Even if it's your first time watching him, at least respect him for what he does if you don't like him.
And if he sucks so bad, why is he sponsored by Meinl and not you?
Yeah, that's what I thought, shut up.

Roger wrote on February 21, 2008 - 15:25

He just seems a little over the top. I don't want to say he's a bad drummer because I have played like him, I lasted an hour tops whereas he can do three hour sets feeling a little drained afterward.

I'm just not a big fan of the "Rides that are 1" below our crashes" club. I would really like to see him play something else apart from ...well bashing away. He's not just bashing away I know that, but it seems like he is. I'd just really like to see him play something different like bebop.

Rock4Satan wrote on February 22, 2008 - 22:36

This is kid is good in his own way. He is a good showman. Nothing crazy in his playing just hard hitting and playing with all he has in him. It is very difficult to play with that intensity night after night. In my opinion I like watching players that play hard and put on a good show as opposed to super technical players that should stay in the studio. I give him some credit for that. But every drummer is different and has their own style. That is why we love to play and watch drummers. Just cause the bands music sucks ( which I think it does) doesn't mean he doesn't deserve some respect.

Nashville wrote on February 23, 2008 - 10:33

Hey, i thought this was a drumming site, not a lets all bash the guy that speaks his mind site, cause i know that there's too many of them... If he had gone into a more mainstream type of music genre, i think that he would be extremely popular, seeing how popular he is in a not so popular genre. I like this genre, but then again, i love Benny Greb, and Virgil Donati and many more styles and drummers. Aaron Gillespie does what he does very well, he doesn't stick to the basic hardcore stuff, neither does underoath, and thats one of the reasons that people don't like him, because he is doing more technical stuff the bashing usually done song sfter song in this genre.

whaperk wrote on February 24, 2008 - 22:57

aaron is awsome dudes!!!
chris adler has to blast on a double bass to sound good. aaron doesnt need to.

Anthony wrote on February 26, 2008 - 21:17

I disagree with viktor just as much as every1 else here because i think aaron is an amazing drummer and hes my hero BUT i also have to agree with nashville this isnt a quote "lets all bash the guy that speaks his mind site" u can comment him back but dont get into a fight on a website and viktor look at nashville 3 and look at the first 20 seconds if u wana see skill.

Jordan wrote on February 27, 2008 - 16:08

I've changed my whole style of drumming because of Aaron's technical beats. He plays some of the most offbeat tech shit ever.

Jerry wrote on March 02, 2008 - 17:23

So in closing Chris Adler,Jason bittner Thomas Lang .Aaron Gillespie=Nothing.

dilan wrote on March 20, 2008 - 17:20

jeez man chill, i respect your opinion but heres mine... aaron is an incredible drummer, just because he headbangs instead of playing blastbeats doesnt mean hes not as good as chris adler. its just a diffrent style. underoath would be half as energetic without him. and why waste ur time bashin on a drummer that is bigger than you will most likely ever be so why dont you go play the f***ing drums cuz you probly need the practice.

bryan3 replied on March 28, 2008 - 12:26

Aaron Gillespie is a huge inspiration for drumming to so many people. He is a talented all around musician, he not only is playing drums and singing but with his new project he literally writes all the music. He beats the hell out of his set because he gets into it, it shows hes enjoying what hes doing as opposed to them drummers that look bored behind their set. I literally love every song Underoath has written not only cuz of all the music but because of the drums Aaron has written to it.

huh head??? wrote on April 12, 2008 - 19:21

hey its so funny how people in here don't respect other peoples opinions haha

allen. wrote on April 14, 2008 - 06:40

i really dont understand why people who think he is not a talented player took the time to comment this video...meinl doesnt just endorse anyone

this guy is great heavy hitting player and he makes music that appeals to a huge group of people not to mention the postive message his band sends out. have some respect for the guy. keep negative opnions to yourself.

Johanna wrote on April 14, 2008 - 07:56

Josh wrote on April 30, 2008 - 03:59

I think, emphasis on the "I THINK" that Aaron is Awesome, so let's stop with all the disrespect, if someone thinks He's crap, then they are blind, but we can't say he's the best in the world either.
it's all about "Opinion"
He is my favourite though =)

And to clear it up, He used to use 21", 22" and 24" rides, not because he likes rides, he likes big cymbals. So then Meinl introduced the 21" and 22" crashes, so now he uses them with the 24" ride. Peace =)

Conor Burridge wrote on March 04, 2010 - 00:17

I like Aaron, but I don't like Aaron's fans, a lot of them are pretty irrational. On Dan Williams' Meinl videos for example, it's just plastered in comments of how much better Aaron is, like it even matters. I prefer Dan's style, he influenced me more than any other drummer. But I'm not gonna go around telling everyone how much better he is than their favourite drummers. I know not all of Aaron's fans are like that, but they seem pretty prevalent on Youtube and the like! But I digress, Aaron is a very good drummer :)

Happydale wrote on May 16, 2010 - 04:37

This guys lame. He plays like he just started lessons...today!

Dave wrote on July 10, 2010 - 23:45

U think he's lame?

i'm not a fan or anything so i'm not exactly backing the guy up but he is a good drummer none the less

although i'd like to see all the people who have commented that he is crap or s*** play like he does, thrashing cymbals to near breaking point, breaking skins all over the show, but do it for the same amount of time, he once went solid like that for two and a half hours, lets see u do that!!!!

Teresa S. Joiner wrote on July 21, 2010 - 01:29

I just love him and he is so freak'n awesome! if i could meet or even like just hang out with him for a day i would like totally be forever happy. I'm a multi-talented person. Ya know? Art, music, writing (song and other), dance, ect. I love anything to do with expression and Aaron expresses everything so well and so beautifully! I love both 'The Almost' and 'Underoath'. I wish i could say more but i can't think of anything else to say. I just LOVE his music and band.
