Biography
Halldór Lárusson is an Icelandic drummer, born on August 13th 1963.
Halldór started playing drums at age 12 and started his professional career at age 15, playing with various bands around the country. He also played at a young age with the Icelandic Youth symphony Orchestra.
He has worked and/or recorded with most of Icelands biggest artists like Bubbi Morthens, Rúnar Júlíusson, Júpíters, Bo Halldórsson, Paul Oscar, Súma drum quartet, a.o. He lived and worked on mainland Europe from 1995 – 2000 where he served as musical director/drummer/producer for the international group Lanyi. He also performed with Dutch artists like Sue Chaloner´s Soul Train, King Taky and Afro roots, Jimmy Glasmacher, punkgroup The Harries a.o.
Halldór is active in various educational programs for young musicians. He is the Principal of Sandgerði School of Music and also teaches percussion at Garður School of music.
In March 2014 Halldór received the „Honorary Artist of 2014“ award from his former hometown of Grindavik, Iceland for his work in music. He is the first drummer in Iceland to receive this kind of award.
Halldór is the founder and organizer of The Reykjavik Drumshow.
Halldór has also organized various masterclasses and clinics in Iceland with various drummers;Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Simon Phillips, Tom Brechtlein, J.P. Bouvet, Anika Nilles, Benny Greb a.o.
Currently he is working on projects with his own project Gola quartet, Japanese artist Natsuki Tamura among many others.
