Biography
Pat Garvey is one of the UK’s most prominent player-educators and has worked internationally as a professional musician for nearly 30 years. As a player, Pat is drummer in the Ozric Tentacles and has played with a diverse range of artists over a long career as a professional drummer including The David Cross Band (King Crimson), The Prototypes, prog overlords Lonely Robot, Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix), JAMES, David Jackson (Van Der Graaf Generator), Tim Booth, Freddie V (Average White Band), Lewis Stephens (Freddie King), and Fischer-Z amongst numerous others. He also plays with renown blues guitarist Danny Giles and is an artist in his own right. As an educator, Pat is Head of Drums/Principal Lecturer at BIMM University in the UK, and also lectures in popular music history and personal and professional development. In 2010 he founded The Brighton Drum School, which has become one of the leading places in the UK and beyond to study drums and access professional mentoring, coaching, career guidance and support on a 1:1 basis in-person and online. He’s written over 300 educational articles for various industry and educational magazines and webzines including iDrum Magazine and the iconic Rhythm Magazine and his own play-along book ‘LAWLESS’ was published in 2015. Pat has performed masterclasses and facilitated educational events all over the world, and as well as his extensive professional experience also masters degree and PGCert qualifications in Learning and Teaching. In 2022 he co-founded Toga Creative, a creative arts hub in Brighton, UK, with professional musician and fellow player-educator, Ben Thomas (Rag n’ Bone Man).
