Biography
TK Johnson is a drummer and singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia. Her passion for the drums first came at age 5 and by age 12, she knew that the only career she’d ever want would be in music.
TK was raised on Motown, old-school Soul/Funk/R&B Music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and old-school Gospel. By the time she developed her ear for studying music, TK had recognized the genius of Stevie Wonder, fell in love with the mind of Prince, deeper in love with the groove of Patti Labelle, and head over heels for anything funkin’. On drums, some of her strongest influences over the years have been Sheila E, James Gadson, Robert Sput Searight, and her first drum instructor, Kevin Davis.
In 2022, TK graduated from Berklee College of Music and launched straight into her career, drumming for indie artist Bartees Strange. TK and Bartees have played on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the CBS Saturday Morning Show, a host of festivals like AfroPunk and Rock Werchter, infamous venues like O2 Apollo and the Rose Bowl, as well as toured with artists and bands like The National, Boygenius, Dijon, Clairo, and Metric.
TK is currently touring with Bartees, but when she’s not traveling the world, you can find her learning records, dancing in the corner of her Instagram drum covers, and inspiring people all over.
